Americans Deal Jordan Messier to Warriors

John Allen

Kennewick, WA – Tri-City Americans Governor/General Manager Bob Tory announced today that the team has traded overage forward Jordan Messier to the Moose Jaw Warriors in exchange for a 4th round pick in the 2014 Bantam Draft.

Today’s trade brings Tri-City’s roster down to the WHL-mandated three overage player limit and includes forwards Justin Feser and Jesse Mychan and defenseman Drydn Dow.

Messier, a 6’2 190-pound right wing from Canmore, Alberta, has spent his entire WHL career with Tri-City after being taken in the 2nd round (40th overall) of the 2007 Bantam Draft.  Since making his WHL debut on September 20, 2008 as a 16-year-old, Messier has gone on to appear in 270 WHL games for the Americans, recording 77 goals, 163 points, 224 penalty minutes and a career plus-11 rating.  His 270 games in a Tri-City sweater also place him 11th on the Americans’ all-time games played list.  Messier also leaves with his name etched in the Americans’ post-season record book, wrapping up his career ranked t-4th in games played (58), 4th in goals scored (14) and 9th in points (28).

“This was truly an unfortunate situation, as we have watched Jordan develop into a fine player during his career in Tri-City,” explained Tory.  “Jordan is a quality person and has worn the Americans’ logo proudly during his tenure.  He was a big part of our success over the last 4 seasons.”

“He will be missed by everyone in our organization and we wish him nothing but the best in Moose Jaw.”

The Americans kick-off an 8-game road trip this week, as they make the long trek to Manitoba for a match-up with the Brandon Wheat Kings on Saturday, October 13.  Game time is 5:30 p.m. (PST) at Westman Place.  Fans can catch all the action live, via WHL Live, at the Americans’ home away from home, Kimo’s Sports Restaurant, in Richland.  The game will also air live on NewsTalk 870 AM, starting with the Sterling Bank Warm-up Show at 5:15 p.m. (PST).
