Americans Defeat Chiefs in Defensive BattleSep 11, 2013 - 22:05 GMT
Cheney, WA - Ty Comrie and Brian Williams each scored for the Tri-City Americans (2-5-0-0, 4 pts), producing all the offense it needed to defeat the Spokane Chiefs (2-2-0-1, 5 pts) Wednesday night at Eastern Washington University.
Comrie got the Americans off to a quick start, scoring 4:56 into the first period, to give Tri-City an early 1-0 lead. Despite ample power play opportunities for both teams, the score remained 1-0 until the third period.
In the third period, Williams increased Tri-City’s lead on the power play, scoring his fifth goal of the pre-season. At the 11:23 mark, Adam Helewka gave the Chiefs some life, scoring what would be Spokane’s only goal of the evening. Despite outshooting the Americans 13-5 in the final frame, the Chiefs were unable to put anymore pucks past Troy Trombley, and the Americans held on for a 2-1 victory.
Trombley played all 60 minutes for the Americans Wednesday, back-stopping Tri-City with 27 saves on the night. On the other side, Eric Williams steered aside 16 shots for the Chiefs in a losing effort.
Tri-City and Spokane will be right back at it this weekend, as both teams wrap up their pre-season schedule at the Toyota Center Saturday night for a 7 p.m. faceoff.
