Kennewick, WA – With under three minutes remaining and a one-goal lead, the Tri-City Americans (1-3-0-0, 2 pts) seemed to be on its way to another victory on home ice. The Seattle Thunderbirds cut into the Americans lead with a power play goal of its own, scored by Mathew Barzal at the 8:01 mark. For the second consecutive night, Tri-City took a lead into the dressing room after 40 minutes.
The Americans held the 2-1 lead until the 17:22 mark of the third period, when Seth Swenson knotted the game for the Thunderbirds. Just when it looked as though the game was headed for overtime, Justin Hickman scored the winning goal for Seattle at 19:11 to give the Thunderbirds the 3-2 victory.
Troy Trombley got the start in goal for the Americans, playing all 60 minutes of the game making 33 saves on the night. The Thunderbirds split time between Danny Mumaugh and Justin Myles, making 15 and 12 saves respectively.
