Lee-Knight, Walter Placed on Waivers; Will Not Return for 2013-14

John Allen

Kennewick, WA – Tri-City Americans Governor/General Manager Bob Tory announced today that the club has placed 20-year-old forward Lukas Walter and 20-year-old goaltender Luke Lee-Knight on WHL waivers and will not be returning to the club for the 2013-14 season.

“Both Luke and Lukas were key contributors this past season and we would like to thank them for their efforts and dedication to this team,” said Tory.  “We wish them both all the best wherever their futures take them.”

Lee-Knight, a 6’2 180 pound netminder from Calgary, AB, was a 2012-13 pre-season invite to camp by Tri-City.  After initially not making the team, Lee-Knight returned to Tri-City following the release of Brenden Fiebelkorn in mid-November.  Lee-Knight went on to appear in 21 games last season, going 11-9 with a 3.90 goals against average and a 0.881 save percentage.  Lee-Knight also picked up a 5-4 overtime playoff win against Spokane, stopping 34 shot in the Game 3 win.  He also started Game 4 of the First Round series, making 41 saves in another overtime contest before an injury forced him to come out.  He finished with a 3.16 goals against average and a 0.915 save percentage in his two playoff appearances.  Prior to his time in Tri-City, Lee-Knight spent his 2011-12 rookie season between the Spokane Chiefs and Prince Albert Raiders, collecting a 2-4-2-1 record along with a 4.82 goals against average and a 0.841 save percentage.

Walter, a 6’0, 200 pound left wing from Langley, BC, was also a pre-season camp invite prior to the 2011-12 season.  Walter appeared in a career-high 68 games last season, notching three points including his first WHL goal on October 13 in Brandon.  Over his WHL career, Walter played in 117 games for Tri-City, collecting five points and 165 penalty minutes.
