Americans Clip Thunderbirds 4-1

KENNEWICK, WA - To quote longtime Oakland Raiders owner Al Davis, all the Tri-City Americans had to do on Wednesday was 'just win, baby!' And, back inside the friendly confines of the Toyota Center, the Tri-City Americans did just that and continued their march towards a third consecutive division crown.

Jordan Messier scored twice, Alexander Pechurskiy picked up 26 saves and the Tri-City Americans (46-21-1-2, 95 pts) skated past the visiting Seattle Thunderbirds (18-39-7-5, 48 pts) 4-1 in front of a sold out crowd of 6,025 fans. With the win, the Americans wrap-up the 10-game season series with Seattle, winning 7 games to 3. The win also snapped Tri-City's season-long three-game losing skid. Meanwhile, Seattle's losing streak in the Toyota Center grew to 12 games as they have now dropped five of their last six.

Americans Ink Prospect Grist

KENNEWICK, WA - Tri-City Americans General Manager Bob Tory announced today that the team has signed prospect Sam Grist to a standard WHL Players Contract.

Grist, a 6'4 200 lb. defenseman from N. Saanich, British Columbia, spent this season with the Victoria Grizzlies of the British Columbia Hockey League (Junior A), appearing in 45 games and collecting two goals, six points and 55 penalty minutes. As a rookie, Grist helped lead the Grizzlies to a 34-18-2-6 record and third place in the Coastal Conference. However, the Grizzlies were bounced in a tough first round series 4 games to 2 by the Nanaimo Clippers, with five of the six games being decided by just one goal.

KENT, WA - With three games left in the regular season, the Tri-City Americans have officially switched from being the hunted to the hunters.

Backed by two goals from Burke Gallimore and 39 saves from Calvin Pickard, the Seattle Thunderbirds (18-38-7-5, 48 pts) held off the visiting Tri-City Americans (45-21-1-2, 93 pts) 4-3 in front of 3,215 fans at ShoWare Center. Meanwhile, Tri-City's slide continued as they dropped their third straight contest, matching their longest winless drought of the season. The loss also dropped the Americans out of first place in the division for the first time since Oct. 30, a span of 18 straight weeks.

Tri-City Herald: Ams stumble, share U.S. Division lead with Everett

PORTLAND -- The Tri-City Americans have done a poor job of protecting their lead in the U.S. Division on their latest road trip.

Playing their sixth straight on the road, the Americans dropped a 6-3 game to Portland on Saturday at the Rose Garden before a crowd of 10,194, putting them in a tie with Everett atop the division standings.

Portland Knocks Off Tri-City 6-3

PORTLAND, OR - Let the race begin!

After previously holding a double-digit lead in the U.S. Division standings this season, the Tri-City Americans (45-20-1-2, 93 pts) now have company atop the Conference after falling to the Portland Winterhawks (41-25-2-1, 85 pts) 6-3 in front of 10,194 fans at the Rose Garden. With the win, Portland picked up just their second win in 10 overall meetings with the Americans this season. However, for Tri-City, that loss could not have come at a worse time in the season, as they are desperately trying to hold off the hard-charging Everett Silvertips and Spokane Chiefs. Now, as teams enter the final week of the regular season, the loss sets up a three-team race for the U.S. Division crown.

Chilliwack Progress: Gore stars as Bruins pummel Americans

If the regular season were to end today, it would be the Chilliwack Bruins and Tri-City Americans squaring off in round one of the Western Hockey League playoffs. And if the post-season were to mirror what has happened in the regular season, the Bruins would be just fine with that matchup.

Chilliwack has won three of the four meetings between the two clubs this year, including a 4-1 win Friday night at Prospera Centre in which the Bruins physically punished the speedy but small Americans from start to finish. Three different Bruins scored goals as Chilliwack hit the 30-win mark for the first time in franchise history.

Tri-City Herald: Chilliwack still has Tri-City's number

CHILLIWACK, British Columbia -- When it came to the B.C. Division this season, the Tri-City Americans ran the table, with the exception of Chilliwack.

Lucas Gore finished with 31 saves as the Bruins (30-31-1-5, 66 points) handed the Americans a 4-1 loss Friday night and won the four-game season series 3-1 at Prospera Centre.

The loss, coupled with Everett's win over Prince George, leaves the Americans (45-19-1-2, 93 points) with a slim two-point lead over the Silvertips in the race for the U.S. Division title.

Gore, Bruins Stifle Americans 4-1

CHILLIWACK, BC - If Friday's contest as Prospera Centre was a glimpse of a potential first round playoff series, the Tri-City Americans will need to find a way to solve Lucas Gore.

Behind a 31-save performance, Gore led the Chilliwack Bruins (30-31-1-5, 66 pts) to a 4-1 victory over the visiting Tri-City Americans (45-19-1-2, 93 pts) in front of 3,778 fans. With the win, Gore improved to 3-0 vs. Tri-City this season as the Bruins took the four-game season series 3 to 1. It is their first season series victory over the Americans in their brief four-year history. Meanwhile, Tri-City, which went 16-0 vs. the rest of B.C. Division teams this season, fell to 3-2 on their seven-game road trip.

Chilliwack Progress: Playoff preview for Bruins?

The Chilliwack Bruins get a good look at a pair of potential playoff opponents when they host the Tri-City Americans and Vancouver Giants this weekend.

Currently sitting eighth in the Western conference with a playoff spot clinched, the Bruins would meet the Americans if the post-season were to begin today.

They could still pass both Kamloops and Kelowna to finish sixth in the West, but the odds favour them playing either Tri-City or the Vancouver Giants in round one.

The Oregonian: Tri-City 5, Portland 1: Pechurskiy turns away 52 Winterhawks shot

The Portland Winterhawks fired 53 shots at Tri-City Americans goalie Alexander Pechurskiy at the Rose Garden on Tuesday night, but he turned away 52 of those shots as the Winterhawks dropped a 5-1 decision to the Americans.

Portland opened the scoring on a power play goal with 47 seconds remaining in the first period. Ryan Johansen sent a cross-ice pass to Taylor Aronson at the right faceoff circle, who then fed Nino Niederreiter, who was alone in the slot after he slipped past the Americans' defense. Niederreiter fired a shot through the legs of Pechurskiy to make it 1-0 going into the second period. The Winterhawks outshot the Americans 18-9 in the frame.
